IUI Processing

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves insemination of Processed semen sample inside a woman's uterus on the day of egg release.

The goal of IUI is to increase the number of motile sperm that reach the egg and subsequently increase the chance of pregnancy.

Indications for IUI

For Female

  • Mild endometriosis
  • Cervical mucus hostility

For Male

  • Difficulty/ Delayed Ejaculation
  • Low sperm count
  • Poor sperm quality
  • Anti Sperm Anti bodies
  • Frozen sample of sperms

Combined Factor

  • Unexplained infertility

Success Rates for IUI

Success rates depend on a couple's fertility problem and age.

Studies have found that for couples with unexplained infertility, the pregnancy rate for each natural IUI cycle is about 4 to 5 percent, and when fertility drugs are used, the pregnancy rate is about 7 to 16 percent.

Intrauterine insemination is effective for some cases with sperm quality problems. However, if the total motile count at the time of insemination (after processing) is less than 5 million, chances for pregnancy with IUI are much lower. If the total motile sperm count is below 1 to 5 million, success is unlikely.

How the IUI procedure works

  • Taking fertility drugs
  • Ovulation cycle will be monitored for women
  • Semen sample will be collected that will be specially washed to remove debri and pus cells (if present)for the insemination
  • Gynaecologist/Infertility specialist will inject the prepared sperm into the women’s uterus
