Sexual dysfunction can affect either of the sexes. Sexual Dysfunction refers to the problems related to sexual intercourse.

 

Female sexual dysfunction is a common problem that affects about half of the women. Female Sexual Dysfunction affects women of all age groups and the risk only increases with age. It also gets complicated after pregnancy or child birth.

Female sexual Dysfunction would inhibit a woman from experiencing a pleasurable intercourse. There may be many different causes for it, or it may occur in varied forms, either psychological or physical.

 

The sexual activity in the female is a neuro-vascular phenomenon. Female sexual problems in general are more common than male sexual problems. A woman who is in a distressed state, and has the inclination to seek medical advise is rare, leading to further complications. In Women Sexuality or sexual intercourse is combination of motivation or desire, sexual arousal, orgasm and deep sense of satisfaction. Female sexual dysfunction is caused due to many factors, including, psychological, physical, social and cultural.

 

Female Sexual Dysfunction has been categorised as

  • Vaginusmus: Penetration disorder or penetration phobia, owing to fear of some or all types of vaginal penetration. This condition occurs whenever a penetration is attempted, the vaginal muscles tighten up on their own. The female has no control over it. This could also occur occasionally, even if a female has previously enjoyed painless penetrative sex. It is caused due to the spasm of musculature of the vagina/li>
  • Anorgasmia: Inability to have an orgasm or Orgasmic disorder, a condition characterised by the inability to have an orgasm even after being sexually stimulated or aroused
  • Sexual arousal disorder: Characterised by a difficulty to become aroused to have a sexual intercourse, or to maintain the arousal till completion of intercourse
  • Female Hypoactive sexual desire disorder: A female experience a low libido, or absence/ lack of sexual desire
  • Dyspareunia: Experience pain during sexual intercourse
