Low Intensity Ultrasound Therapy for ED

prostate

Erectile dysfunction shock waves therapy is a new approach to vascular erectile dysfunction which in today’s world is thought to be due to endothelial dysfunction. The Endothelium is the inner lining of the blood vessels which have the ability to draw more blood the organ concerned if the demand were to arise.

EDSWT uses acoustic or sound waves generated by an electromagnetic or piezoelectric source to improve vascularization in the penis.

Till now all the available methods of the treatment for ED target the symptom by providing an erection, but they do not address the underlying cause. This is the first treatment which has a chance to reverse the endothelial dysfunction to some extent and restore spontaneous erection on sexual arousal.

Who need EDSWT

  • Patients with vasculogenic ED
  • Patients with ED and Diabetes, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia will usually benefit well
  • Patients who are non or partial responsive to a high dose of medications for ED
  • Patients with Shim score of 8 – 24
  • If the ED severity is mild that is Shim score of 10 - 24 there is chance to reverse the underlying cause

How is EDSWT done

This is a non invasive treatment done on out patient basis. The applicator of the machine is a soft silicon balloon which is kept in contact with penis at five different places on the shaft and the crura and deliver the shock waves. This allows the acoustic waves to act on the penile tissue there by enhancing the compliance of the penile arteries and help in regenerating the endothelium.

Side effects
